What to look for if you suspect your child of using Cannabis

The physical signs may include:

• Drug paraphernalia, such as cigarette papers, herb grinders, bits of card with torn pieces missing, small plastic bags with self- sealing tops.

• Small burn holes in clothes

• Sudden use of a lot of air freshener or incense sticks to mask the smell

• Blood shot eyes, may find they have started using eye drops

• Slurred speech, giggling fits

• Increased snacking, drinking

• Pungent smell on clothing

Emotional signs may include:

• Lethargy, lack of motivation, school work may begin to suffer

• Poor attention

• Harder to get up in the morning

• Memory difficulties

• Loss of interest in activities they used to enjoy

If your child shows some of the signs above it does not always mean they are using cannabis, i.e blood shot eyes could be that they have had little sleep, so look for more than one example from the list above. There are also other things that should be looked for, such as demands for extra money with nothing to show for it.
