Home Office Information Guide: Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse (APVA)

The Home Office has now published an information guide for practitioners outlining the issues surrounding adolescent to parent violence and abuse (APVA).

The document outlines the current understanding of the problem and gives advice and information on how various professionals should handle a disclosure from a parent/child. The document includes what little statistics there are available and we are still without a legal definition for what constitutes parent abuse.

"There is currently no legal definition of adolescent to parent violence and abuse. However, it is increasingly recognised as a form of domestic violence and abuse and, depending on the age of the child, it may fall under the governments official definition of domestic violence and abuse"
